The
Kauai Sands Hotel - $$$$
- ★ ★

★
The Kauai Sands Hotel is without
a doubt one of the best values on the island of
Kauai for a place to stay. Located only a few steps
from the beach, it also offers an incredible value
for the money spent. If you are interested in a
clean place to stay, and you do not need to pay
resort prices for resort amenities, stay at the
Kauai Sands. A common theme with guests that is
heard over and over again are the words "pleasantly
surprised"!

The Kauai
Sands Hotel is known for its value for the dollar.
The rooms are clean and simple (see the amenities list
below), the grounds are well kept, and the beach is only
a hundred feet away. The Kauai Sands has two freshwater
swimming pools, plenty of parking, and an on-site restaurant
(Al and Don's) for breakfast and dinner.
The hotel is
close to any of the attractions you may wish to see while
on Kauai. Enjoy the island!

The Kauai
Sands Hotel is a "budget" hotel without
the negative things that implies. Specifically, "budget"
hotels have a reputation as being unkept (or smelly, or
dirty)... but this is not the case with this hotel.
You will find
it to be orderly, clean, and well managed. The hotel is
owned by Hawaiians who live locally, and they place a
value on what you get for your money out of a sense of
fairness. You can be assured that you will be paying less
and getting more.
|
|
The rooms are available as either standard, superior,
or deluxe, and there is really not much difference between
them. Rooms with kitchenettes are available as are some
rooms with king size beds (most have two queens).
We recommend
reserving a room located away from the parking lot
as it will be quieter. Tour buses stop here (as this hotel
offers great rates on group stays), and the noise may
bother some guests. This means to not get a "mountain
view" room and then to ask for a room away from the
parking lot when you make your reservations. Use the field
on the purchase form "special requests", you
will see it when you make your reservations. Use the "Get
Prices" button at the top of this page to start.
If you don't
mind being by the lot, you can sometimes get a room here
for under $100. Sometimes under $90 depending upon
time of year.
|
|
You can use
the money you save by staying here to play on the two
Princeville area golf courses, ask at the desk for specials
coupons. Or you can shop at the Coconut Marketplace, which
is very nearby.

"Kauai
is such a beautiful island to visit. This hotel may seem
cheap and small but the upkeep is amazing. This hotel
is really a steal! They have 2 pools, a restaurant, and
a nice beach. Right next door is the coconut shopping
center which provides food, shopping, and some entertainment.
I would suggest taking a tour of the island or waimea
canyon while visiting!" - Stephanie W

"This
was one of the cheapest Kauai Hotels. All the reviewers
agreed on one thing: Super clean place. That's all I need:
a good bed and a clean room. The rooms were super clean.
The hotel is a bit old, but I thought well kept. The staff
is not super friendly, but they weren't rude either. You
need your own shampoo, no coffee maker, (shops close by).
Two nice pools (that I didn't use) you have an Ok beach
right at the hotel and the snorkeling was OK right there,
lots of reef to see fish. Great location in Kauai. Gardens
nice and well kept." - Tony D

Tips for staying
in the Kauai Sands Hotel:
- As mentioned,
get a room away from the parking lot.
- Do not get
a mountain view room, unless you want a super-low rate.
- Poolside
rooms are okay to get here.
- The ocean
view is to the east so take in at least one sunrise.
- Do not expect
a lot of amenities. Think "motel 6", but cleaner.
- The hours
of Al and Don's Restaurant are short, apparently only
an hour and a half for breakfast or dinner.
- Restaurant
is also oceanside.
- Night life
is limited.
- Seniors
often stay here, so expect the same things they do.
Quiet, peace, and reasonable rates.
- Groups also
stay here.
- Pools close
at 6:00, but is not a bad thing if you have a poolside
room. Will make for peace and a little more privacy
if you want to sit on the balcony.

"We
decided to go to hiking, and kayaking on Kauai and
spent our money on these activities rather than
on a fancy hotel. I was really pleased by the location,
cleanliness, and friendliness of the employees.
I didn't expect much because of the price, but I
was so pleasantly surprised by what I got. We even
got a free breakfast." - Erin W
